Beaver day felt craft / Manualidad de fieltro del dia del castor

A few days ago without much to do around the house, I got curious about which holidays are celebrated on April. For my surprise on April 7th, we celebrate International Beavers Day. For those who don’t know about beavers they are known for their ability to munch up trees, build dams, restore wetlands and prevent floods. As you can see beavers are very important for nature. / Hace unos días sin mucho que hacer en la casa tuve curiosidad por saber qué días festivos se celebran en abril. Para mi sorpresa el 7 de abril celebramos el Día Internacional de los Castores. Para aquellos que no saben acerca de los castores son conocidos por su capacidad de cortar árboles, construir presas, restaurar pantanos y prevenir inundaciones. Como puedes ver, los castores son muy importantes para la naturaleza.

The Catholic Bible tells us about three gifts that were given to Jesus to pay tribute at birth: gold, incense and myrrh. Over time it was assumed that these were delivered by the three wise men from the East, whom are not mentioned as such in the bible, however today they are known as Melchor, Gaspar and Baltazar. / La biblia católica nos cuenta sobre tres regalos que se le entregaron a Jesus para rendirle tributo a la hora de nacer: oro, incienso y mirra. Con el tiempo se supuso que estos fueron entregados por los tres reyes magos del oriente, los cuales no son mencionados como tal en la biblia, sin embargo hoy en día son conocidos como Melchor, Gaspar y Baltazar.

Christmas trees have been a tradition that dates back to Roman times, green leaves were used to decorate homes during winter time as a form of representing life amid the dark cold winter nights. In the nineteenth century Christianity adopted the Christmas tree as symbolism of life. They started decorating the trees with candles and apples, candles symbolized the light of Christ and the apples symbolized the knowledge of man’s original sin, according to Christian belief. Placing both ornaments in the Christmas tree represented the light of Christ absolving the fall of men within the inmortal symbol of the Christmas tree.  / Los árboles de Navidad han sido una tradición que se remonta a la época romana, las hojas verdes se utilizaron para decorar las casas durante el invierno como una forma de representar la vida en medio de las oscuras y frías noches de invierno. En el siglo XIX, el cristianismo adoptó el árbol de Navidad como simbolismo de vida. Comenzaron a decorar los árboles con velas y manzanas, las velas simbolizaban la luz de Cristo y las manzanas simbolizaban el conocimiento del pecado original del hombre, según la creencia cristiana. Colocar ambos adornos en el árbol de Navidad representaba la luz de Cristo que absolvía la caída de los hombres dentro del símbolo inmortal del árbol de Navidad.

Christmas tree star / Estrella para el árbol de navidad

Placing a star on a Christmas tree is a tradition for many of us, just like placing ornaments and string lights, but have you ever wondered what the star represents? The star is also known as the “Star of Bethlehem” giving reference to the star that guided the three wise men to Jesus’s  birthplace in Nazareth. The star represents the birth of Jesus Christ. / Colocar una estrella en un árbol de navidad es una tradición para muchos de nosotros, al igual que colocar adornos y luces de cuerda, pero ¿alguna vez te has preguntado qué representa la estrella? La estrella también es conocida como la “Estrella de Belén” ya que hace referencia a la estrella que guió a los tres Reyes Magos al lugar de nacimiento de Jesús en Nazaret. La estrella representa el nacimiento de Jesucristo.

How to make a piñata ornament? /¿Cómo hacer una piñata de adorno?

A piñata is a typical and traditional element to celebrate Mexican festivities. Originally piñatas were made out of clay, then they were covered with tissue paper of various colors and filled with typical fruits of the season, candies, among other things. These were destroyed with a stick while being blindfolded. The idea was to take all the contents of the piñata as soon as they fell and to enjoy the “prize”. Now a days, modern piñatas are made out of newspapers and tissue paper, however they are still an essential part of Mexican celebrations. / Una piñata es un elemento típico y tradicional para celebrar los festejos mexicanos. Originalmente las piñatas estaban hechas de barro, después eran cubiertas con papel de china de una variedad de colores y rellenas de frutas típicas de la temporada, dulces y otras cosas. Estas se destruían con un palo mientras tenias vendados los ojos. La idea era llevarse todo el contenido de la piñata en cuanto este cayera y disfrutar del “premio”. Actualmente las piñatas modernas se hacen con periódico y papel de china, sin embargo siguen siendo parte esencial de los festejos mexicanos.

The Day of the Dead is a Mexican tradition in which the dead are honored and celebrated. In Mexico this holiday is celebrated for two days, the first day is when it is believed that the souls of children arrive and the 2nd of November when the souls of the adults arrive. The most representative element of this holiday are the altars of the dead, which are full of meaning. / El Día de muertos es una tradición mexicana donde se le celebra y honra a los muertos. En México el día de los muertos se celebra durante dos días, el 1 que es cuando se cree que llegan las almas de los niños y el 2 de noviembre que es cuando llegan las almas de los adultos. El elemento más representativo de esta festividad son los altares de muertos, los cuales están llenos de significado.

Without really thinking about it, over the years we have been relating certain colors to festivities, the best example would be Christmas. When we think of Christmas, colors like red, green and white come to mind. Another example would be Valentine’s Day that bring us red and pink colors. However, when we think of Halloween, the colors we think of are orange and black. But what meaning do these two colors have and why do we relate them to Halloween? / Sin realmente pensarlo a través de los años hemos ido relacionando ciertos colores con festividades, el mejor ejemplo sería Navidad. Cuando pensamos en Navidad se nos vienen a la mente colores como el rojo, verde y el blanco. Otro ejemplo sería San Valentín que nos traen colores rojos y rosas. Sin embargo, cuando pensamos en Halloween los colores en los que pensamos son el naranja y el negro. ¿Pero que significado tienen estos dos colores y porque los relacionamos con Halloween?
