A few days ago without much to do around the house, I got curious about which holidays are celebrated on April. For my surprise on April 7th, we celebrate International Beavers Day. For those who don’t know about beavers they are known for their ability to munch up trees, build dams, restore wetlands and prevent floods. As you can see beavers are very important for nature. / Hace unos días sin mucho que hacer en la casa tuve curiosidad por saber qué días festivos se celebran en abril. Para mi sorpresa el 7 de abril celebramos el Día Internacional de los Castores. Para aquellos que no saben acerca de los castores son conocidos por su capacidad de cortar árboles, construir presas, restaurar pantanos y prevenir inundaciones. Como puedes ver, los castores son muy importantes para la naturaleza.
I believe that every animal on earth has a purpose for being here, in this holiday they are recognizing beavers for their role and contribution to nature. Besides, who can resist a cute rodent who likes munching trees right? / Creo que cada animal en la tierra tiene un propósito, en este día festivo están reconociendo a los castores por su rol y aportación a la naturaleza. Además, ¿quién puede resistirse a un bonito roedor al que le gusta masticar árboles, verdad?
In order to celebrate this day I made a cute felt beaver, I hope you enjoy the tutorial, it is pretty easy to do. / Para celebrar este día decidí crear un lindo castor de fieltro, espero que disfrutes el tutorial, es bastante sencillo de hacer.
What materials do you need? / ¿Qué materiales necesitas?
- Dark brown felt / Fieltro café oscuro
- Light brown felt / Fieltro café claro
- White felt / Fieltro Blanco
- Needle / Aguja
- Thread / Hilo
- Cotton / Algodón
- Scissors / Tijeras
- Marker / Plumón
Steps / Pasos:
1. With a marker start by tracing the shape of the beaver you want on the dark brown felt. Place another piece of felt underneath the one you just traced and hold it together so that when you cut it out you end up with two equal pieces. / Con un marcador comienza a trazar la forma del castor que deseas en el fieltro café oscuro. Coloca otro trozo de fieltro debajo del que acabas de rastrear y manténlo unido para que cuando lo cortes termines con dos piezas iguales.
2. On the light brown felt, trace the shape of the beaver’s tail. And like the previous step place another piece of the same felt below and cut them up together. This way you’ll end up with two same pieces too. / En el fieltro café claro traza la forma de la cola del castor. Y al igual que el paso anterior coloca otra pieza del mismo fieltro debajo y córtalas juntas. De esta manera terminarás con dos piezas iguales también.
3. Cut a circle of the light brown felt for the stomach. / Recorta un circulo con el fieltro café claro para la panza.
4. With the same felt, cut the shape of the snout, two circles for the inside of the ears, and two small ovals for the eyes. / Con el mismo fieltro, recorta la forma del hocico, dos círculos para el interior de las orejas y dos ovalos pequeños para los ojos.
5. Now take the dark brown felt, we are going to cut a circle for the nose, four same identical for the arms, and four identical pieces for the legs. / Ahora toma el fieltro café oscuro, vamos a recortar un círculo para la nariz, cuatro piezas iguales para los brazos y cuatro piezas iguales para las piernas.
6. Now that we have all the pieces that will build up our beaver we can start by sewing the stomach to the piece of the felt that will be the front of our character, as well as the round light brown circles that will go inside the ears. / Ahora que contamos con todas las piezas que conformarán nuestro castor, podemos comenzar cosiendo el estómago en lo que será el frente de nuestro personaje, al igual que los círculos redondos de color café claro que irán dentro de las orejas.
7. Sew the dark brown circle that will be the nose to the snout. / Cosé el círculo café oscuro que será la nariz al hocico.
8. Sew the arms and legs of the beaver in pairs. / Cose los brazos y piernas del castor en pares.
9. Take a piece of white felt and cut the shape of the teeth. Then sew them underneath the snout so that they stick out. Now we can sew the snout to the front of our beaver. / Toma un trozo de fieltro blanco y recorta la forma de los dientes. Luego, cóselos debajo del hocico para que sobresalgan. Ahora podemos coser el hocico al frente de nuestro castor.
10. Take the small ovals that will be the eyes and sew them to the front of the beaver. / Toma los pequeños ovalos que serán los ojos y cóselos al frente del castor.
11. Now sew the front piece of our beaver to the back piece, but placing the arms and legs in between. Before you finish sewing the beaver leave a small space to fill it in with cotton. Once you have filled it in, you can close it together. / Ahora vamos a coser la pieza frontal de nuestro castor a la pieza posterior, pero colocando los brazos y las piernas en el medio de ambos. Antes de terminar de coser el castor deja un pequeño espacio para rellenarlo con algodón. Una vez que lo hayas rellenado puedes terminar de coserlo.
12. With a black marker you can detail the finishing touches, like putting some whiskers, the eye pupils and some lines on the ears and teeth. / Con un marcador negro puedes detallar los toques finales, como ponerle algunos bigotes, pupilas y algunas líneas en las orejas y los dientes.
