Valentine’s Hearts Bouquet / Ramo de Corazones para San Valentín

It’s almost that time of the year where everyone expresses their love towards others with different forms of affection, gifts and gestures. That’s right, it’s almost Valentine’s Day! Valentine’s Day is an annual holiday that takes place on February 14th and is celebrated all over the world, on this day we celebrate love. When we think of Valentine’s Day we imagine red and pink hearts, romance, chocolate and other sweets, flowers, romantic dinners, etc. We express our love with these different decorations, dates and gifts to our “valentines” on this day. / Se aproxima esa época del año en la que todos expresamos el amor que sentimos hacia los demás a través de diferentes formas de cariño, gestos y regalos. Es correcto, ¡ya casi es día de San Valentín! San Valentín es un día festivo celebrado cada año en el día 14 de febrero alrededor de todo el mundo, en este día festivo uno celebra el amor. Cuando pensamos en el día de San Valentín por lo general nos imaginamos corazones rojos y rosas, romance, chocolates y otros dulces, flores, cenas románticas, etc. A través de estas diferentes decoraciones, citas y regalos es como nosotros expresamos nuestro amor a nuestro “Valentin” en este día.

Valentine’s Day is very popular amongst those who spend money in order to celebrate with their partners, since so many people celebrate this holiday around the world the majority of stores and restaurants raise their prices and therefore it becomes an expensive holiday. This can sometimes be an inconvenience for those who don’t have much money to spend or just don’t want to spend a lot on one day, and even if you search for a gift months in advance the prices will still be elevated due to the connection with this holiday. So if you’re looking for something romantic and inexpensive to give to your partner this year during Valentine’s Day then you’ve come to the right place! In this blog I will show you how to make an easy, beautiful, and romantic hearts bouquet that will save you lots of money and charm your partner! / El día de San Valentín es muy popular entre las personas que gastan dinero para poder celebrarlo con sus parejas, ya que mucha gente celebra este día festivo alrededor del mundo esto causa que la mayoría de las tiendas y restaurantes suban sus precios y hace que sea un día costoso. Esto puede llegar a ser un inconveniente para aquellas personas que no tienen mucho dinero o no desean gastar tanto en un día, y aunque busques por adelantado el regalo vas a encontrar los precios elevados de cualquier manera ya que están relacionados con el día de San Valentín. Así que si estas buscando algo romántico y barato que puedas regalarle a tu pareja este año para el día de San Valentín entonces, ¡haz llegado al lugar correcto! En este blog te enseñare como hacer un sencillo, hermoso, y romántico ramo de corazones que te ahorrará mucho dinero, ¡y además le encantaran a tu pareja!

What materials do you need? / ¿Que materiales necesitas?

• Scissors / Tijeras
• Red and white felt / Fieltro rojo y blanco
• Black marker / Marcador negro
• Wooden sticks (preferably thin) / Palitos de madera (preferiblemente delgados)
• Cotton stuffing / Relleno de algodón
• Needle and thread / Aguja e hilo
• Polyurethane foam / Espuma de poliuretano
• Piece of jute cloth / Pedazo de tela de yute
• Jute cord / Cuerda de yute

Steps / Pasos:

1. To begin we will take one of our pieces of felt, it doesn’t matter which color you choose to start with, for example I started with the white felt (I used a recycled piece of felt). Then we will fold one of the long edges of our felt towards the inside, this will be helping us create our hearts in our next steps. You can make your fold as small or big as you want since the size of your hearts will depend on how far you fold it in right now, I folded mine about a third of the way towards the inside of the felt. Once you have folded your piece of felt into the size you desire we will grab the black marker and trace the shape of half a heart, the half of the heart should be facing towards the outside of the paper since the other half will be made from the back side the felt once we cut out the shape. / Para empezar vamos a tomar uno de nuestros pedazos de fieltro, no importa el color que elijas para empezar, por ejemplo yo empece con el fieltro blanco (utilicé un pedazo de fieltro reciclado). Luego vamos a doblar uno de los bordes largos del fieltro hacia el interior, esto nos estará ayudando a crear nuestros corazones en los próximos pasos. Puedes doblar el borde tan grande o pequeño como desees ya que el tamaño de tus corazones dependerá de cuanto lo dobles ahorita, yo doble mi borde alrededor de un tercio del fieltro hacia adentro. Una vez que hayas doblado tu pedazo de fieltro en el tamaño que desees vamos a tomar el marcador negro y trazar la forma de un medio corazón, la mitad del corazón deberá estar viendo hacia el exterior del pedazo de fieltro ya que la otra mitad se creara con la parte trasera del fieltro una vez que lo cortemos la figura.

2. Once we have traced the shape of half a heart we will use our scissors to cut it out by following the black outline we drew, when finished you should have the shape of a whole heart by expanding the piece of felt that was folded. We can use this heart we just made to create more hearts, either from the same felt or another color, by following this step you will be able to make all the hearts you want much faster. / Una vez que hayamos trazado la forma del medio corazón vamos a usar nuestras tijeras para recortarlo mientras seguimos el contorno negro que dibujamos, cuando termines deberás tener la forma de un corazón entero al expandir el pedazo de fieltro que habías doblado. Podemos utilizar este corazón que acabamos de hacer para crear más corazones, ya sean de este mismo fieltro o de otro color, al seguir este paso podrás hacer todos los corazones que quieras mucho mas rápido.

3. Next, grab two of your felt hearts and place them on top of each other before sewing them together. You can combine different colors or choose the same color for the design of your heart. One you have both pieces on top of each other you will sew it over the edge in order to connect them, leave the bottom part of your heart open since we will be using this hole to put in our cotton stuffing. Once your hearts are sewed together grab a small amount of the cotton stuffing and fill up your heart. / Después toma dos corazones de fieltro y colócalos uno encima del otro antes de coserlos juntos. Puedes combinar diferentes colores o elegir el mismo color para el diseño de tu corazón. Una vez que tengas ambas piezas encima de la otra vamos a coserlos por el borde para unirlos, hay que dejar la parte inferior del corazón abierta ya que por ahí vamos a rellenar nuestro corazón con algodón. Cuando estén cosidos tus corazones toma una pequeña cantidad del relleno de algodón y rellena tu corazón.

4.  Now that we have stuffed our hearts with cotton we’re going to insert one of the wooden sticks as far inside our heart as we can,  do this carefully so that we don’t break or damage our heart. Once the wooden stick is inside the heart we can finish sewing up together our heart pieces, in order to avoid the stick falling out or being too loose let’s try sewing up the rest of our heart edges the closest together we can. / Una vez que hayamos rellenado de algodón nuestros corazones vamos a insertar uno de los palitos de madera lo más al fondo que se pueda, hay que hacerlo con cuidado para que no se vaya a dañar o romper el corazón. Ya que tengamos el palito de madera dentro del corazón vamos a terminar de coser nuestras piezas, intenta coser las piezas lo más juntas que puedas para evitar que el palito de madera se caiga o que este demasiado suelto.

5. Once you’ve completed the previous steps for all of the hearts you’ve made we are going to stick them onto our piece of polyurethane foam, the foam is going to represent the base of the pot for our bouquet. Then after you have placed all of your hearts inside the foam we are going to grab a piece of our jute cloth and wrap it around our piece of polyurethane foam. Make sure that the piece of jute cloth is long and wide enough to cover the polyurethane foam base you’re working on. Finally, grab the jute cord and wrap the jute cloth around your bouquet from the bottom of your wooden sticks, make sure to wrap the cord several times around the sticks. Before cutting the piece of cord you have used we are going to unfold out a piece that’s long enough, this will be used to create a knot to hold the cloth together after we’ve wrapped it around our bouquet. You’re done now! You have created your own bouquet made out of felt hearts. / Una vez que hayas seguido todos los pasos anteriores y completes todos los corazones que hiciste los vamos a insertar en la espuma de poliuretano, esta espuma va a representar la base de la maceta para nuestro ramo. Después de insertar todos nuestros corazones dentro de la espuma vamos a tomar nuestro pedazo de tela de yute y lo vamos a envolver alrededor de nuestro pedazo de espuma. Asegúrate de que la pieza de tela de yute sea lo suficientemente largo y ancho para que cubra el pedazo de espuma con la que estamos trabajando. Finalmente, toma la cuerda de yute y envuelve la tela de yute alrededor de tu ramo desde la parte inferior de tus palitos de madera, asegúrate de envolver alrededor de tus palitos varias veces. Antes de cortar la cuerda de yute que hemos usado desenreda un pedazo que sea lo suficientemente largo, esta pieza la vamos a usar para hacer un nudo para mantener unida la tela después de haberla envuelto alrededor del ramo. ¡Haz terminado! Haz creado tu propio ramo de corazones hechos de fieltro.
