How to make baptism keychains? /¿Cómo hacer llaveros de bautismo?

Do you have no idea as to what you could give as gifts to your guests after a great celebration? For example a baby’s baptism or maybe a baby shower? The gift becomes an issue when you’ve already spent a lot of money on the event or are planning to spend a lot soon. However you can still find great options for gifts that have affordable costs. / ¿No sabes qué regalarle a tus invitados para esa gran celebración? Por ejemplo, ¿después del bautizo de tu bebé o tal vez de un baby shower? El tema del regalo se puede convertir en un problema cuando tienes muchos gastos del evento o estas planeando en tenerlos. Sin embargo aún así se pueden encontrar muy buenas opciones para regalo a costos accesibles. 

I am not sure if it is typical to give gifts for these type of celebrations in other countries, however in Mexico it is part of our customs and traditions. We seek to give a gift with the purpose that you and your guests remember this special day. In recent months, I have encountered people asking for gift ideas regarding this type of celebration and it occurred to me to share this tutorial with you. / No estoy segura si en otros países se acostumbre a dar regalos por este tipo de celebraciones, al cambio en México esto forma parte de las tradiciones y costumbres. Buscamos dar un regalo con el propósito de que uno y sus invitados recuerden ese día especial. En los últimos meses me he topado con gente preguntando por ideas de regalos para este tipo de evento y se me ocurrió compartirles este tutorial. 

In this tutorial you will learn how to make two types of keychains for baptism events. The idea is very simple and easy to make, however it is a gift that can be used by everyone. It is always difficult to consider what to give as we do not want to invest in something that is going to be put away or discarded by our guests. We want to give them something that can be useful. / En este tutorial aprenderás a hacer dos tipos de llaveros para bautizos. La idea es muy sencilla y fácil de hacer, sin embargo es un regalo que puede ser usado por todos. Siempre es difícil considerar que regalar, ya que tampoco queremos invertir en algo que vaya a ser arrumbado o desechado por nuestros invitados. Queremos darles algo que realmente les sea útil. 

CORD KEYCHAIN / LLAVERO DE CORDÓN

Materials you need / Materiales que necesitarás:

•  Any type of yarn / thread / cord that you like / Cualquier tipo de estambre / hilo / cuerda que te guste
• 2 pendants (I chose a cute baby with a toy and a baby pacifier) / 2 dijes (Yo elegí un hermoso bebe con un juguete y un chupón)
• 1 metal keyring / 1 anillo de metal
• Scissors / Tijeras

Steps / Pasos:

1. Cut a piece of your cord or the material you selected about 10 cm long. Then pass it through the keyring until you reach the middle.  / Corta un pedazo del cordón o el material que estas usando aproximadamente de 10 cm de largo. Luego pásalo a través del anillo de metal hasta llegar a la mitad.

2. Once the half of your cord is in the metal ring, place the pendants through the right side of the cord facing upward. / Una vez que la mitad de tu cordón esté en el anillo de metal, coloca los dijes a través del lado derecho del cordón viendo hacia arriba.

3. We are going to take the right side of our cord and make two loops around the left side of the cord. Then pass the cord through the loops to make a knot. / Vamos a tomar el lado derecho de nuestro cordón y haremos dos bucles alrededor del cordón del lado izquierdo. Luego pasaremos el cordón a través de los bucles para hacer un nudo.

4. Tighten the knot pushing it upwards and fixing the pendants. / Aprieta el nudo empujándolo hacia arriba y acomoda los dijes. 

5. To finish make a knot at the end of each cord and cut the remaining cord. / Para terminar haz un nudo en las puntas del cordón y después corta el restante.

TASSEL KEYCHAIN / LLAVERO DE BORLA

Materials needed / Materiales necesarios: 

• Thread of any color you want / Hilo del color que quieras
• 2 pendants (I chose a cute baby with a toy and a baby pacifier, same as our other keychain) / 2 dijes (Yo elegí un hermoso bebe con un juguete y un chupón, mismos que el otro llavero)
• 1 metal keyring / 1 anillo de metal
• Scissors / Tijeras

Steps / Pasos:

1. If you have some tweezers they could be very useful in this step, in case you don’t have them you can use a fork. We will start winding the thread many times to form an oval shape. The more thread you put on the hairier the tassel will be./ Si tienes unas pinzas te podrían ser muy útiles en este paso, en caso de no tenerlas puedes usar un tenedor. Vamos a comenzar enrollando el hilo muchas veces hasta formar un tipo ovalo. Entre más hilo pongas más peludo estará la borla. 

2. When you are finished winding the thread we will trim the remaining thread leaving a long piece. We will take this remaining thread and use it to wind one of the corners of our piece. Once you’ve made a knot take everything out of the accessory you used to roll it up. And with scissors we will trim the threads from the opposite side of the knot so that they are loose. / Cuando hayas terminado de enrollar el hilo vamos a recortar el hilo restante dejando un pedazo largo. Este hilo restante lo vamos a tomar y usar para enrollar una de las esquinas de nuestra pieza.  Una vez que hayas hecho un nudo, saca todo del accesorio que utilizaste para enrollarlo. Y con unas tijeras vamos a recortar los hilos del lado opuesto al nudo para que estén sueltos.

3. Take the metal ring and pass it through where our knot is. Then we will pin up our charms at the height where the thread that made the knot was placed. / Toma el anillo de metal y pásalo a través de donde quedo nuestro nudo. Después vamos a fijar nuestros dijes a la altura donde se puso el hilo que hizo el nudo.
