How to make Halloween spiders? / ¿Cómo hacer arañas de Halloween?

How many people do we know that cannot even stand the sight of a spider? For some people these type of insects can be insignificant, however for many others they can cause feelings of repulsion and fear. Spiders have been one of the oldest and most common type of phobias, this fear for spiders is known as arachnophobia. Spiders trigger a response of disgust in people and have been associated, since many years ago, to infections and diseases. / ¿A cuántas personas conocemos que no soportan si quiera la presencia de una araña? Para algunas personas nos parecen insignificantes estos insectos, sin embargo a otros nos provocan repulsión o miedo. Las arañas han sido una de las fobias más antiguas y comunes, este miedo a las arañas se conoce como aracnofobia. Las arañas provocan una respuesta de asco en las personas y se han asociado desde hace muchos años a infecciones y enfermedades.

The fear that spiders give make them excellent partakers in horror stories and therefore a great idea for Halloween decorations. In the end, just the thought of having a spider crawl on top of you gives you goosebumps!  / El miedo que nos provocan las arañas las convierten en grandes participantes en historias de miedo y por lo tanto, una gran parte de nuestras decoraciones de halloween. ¡Al final el si quiera pensar en que se te suba una araña te pone los pelos de punta!

If you are a person who believes in superstitions it is said that if you happen to see a spider on the night of Halloween, it means that the spirit of a dead loved one is watching over you. I find this kind of amazing, unless you are afraid of spiders, then how creepy can it get right? / Si eres una persona que cree en las supersticiones se dice que si ves una araña en la noche de Halloween, significa que el espíritu de un ser querido que se ha muerto te esta cuidado. Esto me parece increíble, a menos que le tengas miedo a las arañas, entonces ¿qué tan espeluznante puede ser?

The idea of this tutorial is not only to get inspiring ideas on how to decorate for this holiday, but rather to use these tutorials as an excuse to make them with your family. This is a very simple tutorial and I think you will enjoy it. / La idea de este tutorial no es solamente conseguir ideas para decorar en esta temporada, si no utilizar estos tutoriales como excusa para hacer manualidades con tu familia. Este tutorial es muy sencillo y creo que lo disfrutarán. 

What materials do you need? / ¿Qué materiales necesitas?:

• Styrofoam ball / Pelota de unicel
• Googly eyes / Ojos saltones
• Black acrylic paint  / Pintura acrílica negra
• Silicone / Silicón
• Black pipe cleaners / Limpiapipas negros
• Adhesive tape / Cinta adhesiva
  

Steps / Pasos:

1. Start by taking 4 black pipe cleaners. Hold them with adhesive tape from the corner, more or less, at the middle of our styrofoam ball. We need to cover completely the pipecleaner with adhesive tape from where it holds since we will cover the tape with paint on our next step. / Para comenzar vamos a tomar 4 limpiapipas negros. Vamos a sujetarlos con cinta adhesiva de una esquina más o menos a la mitad de nuestra pelota de unicel. Necesitamos cubrir bien la parte que va a ir pegada al unicel, ya que después la cubriremos con pintura.

2. Once the pipe cleaners are securely fastened, take the black acrylic paint and paint the entire styrofoam ball and the adhesive tape pieces to hide them with the paint. Let it dry for a few minutes. / Una vez que estén bien sujetados los limpiapipas, toma la pintura acrílica negra y pinta toda la pelota de unicel y los pedazos de cinta adhesiva para esconderlos con la pintura. Déjalo secar unos minutos. 

3. Now we can set our eyes! Take the silicone and glue the eyes on your spider. Let it dry for a few minutes. As for the pipe cleaner legs you can give them the shape you want them to have, in my case I folded them up and then to the side to give them this shape. / ¡Ahora le podemos poner los ojos! Toma el silicón y pega los ojos en tu araña. Déjalo secar por unos minutos. En cuanto a las patitas de limpiapipas puedes darle la forma que quieres que tengan, en mi caso las doble hacia arriba y luego hacia un lado para darles esta forma.

Once the googly eyes are dry, you can now place it wherever you had planned. If you are planning on hanging it on some door or ceiling then placing a pin with a thread could work out pretty well. / Una vez que los ojos saltones estén secos, pueden colocarlos donde hayan planeado. Si planeas colgarlo en alguna puerta o techo, entonces colocar un alfiler con un hilo te podría funcionar bastante bien.
