Decorate your T-shirt with beads/ Decora tú camisa con cuentas

How many times have you had an idea of a t-shirt that had some sort of design you thought of or had in mind? Probably many times, and finding a similar one can be pretty hard and/or sometimes impossible. Even though there are millions of designs out there, there’s still the possibility of not finding what you are looking for. This is motive enough to get inspired and think about making it yourself. Besides, if you are not planning on investing a large amount of money on a t-shirt this could also be a great option. / ¿Cuántas veces has tenido una idea de una camisa que tenga algún tipo de diseño que hayas pensado o tenías en mente? Probablemente muchos, y encontrar uno similar puede ser bastante difícil o a veces imposible. A pesar de que hay millones de diseños todavía hay probabilidades de que no encuentres lo que estas buscando. Este es motivo suficiente para inspirarte y pensar en hacerlo tú mismo. Además, si no estas planeando invertir una gran cantidad de dinero en una camisa esta también podría ser una gran opción.

With fabric paint and beads you can basically create anything you want, you might just need a little help or idea on how to get started. On this tutorial I will show you how to paint the letters on the shirt with the help of stencils and then how to cover them with beads. It’s basically up to you on how you want your t-shirt to be. If you like the beads you can keep them as well or just leave the paint. / Con la pintura de tela y las cuentas puedes crear todo lo que desees, sin embargo, puede que necesites un poco de ayuda o idea sobre cómo comenzar. En este tutorial te mostraré cómo pintar las letras con un poco de ayuda de plantillas y luego como cubrirlas con cuentas. Básicamente, depende de ti cómo quieres que sea tu camiseta. Si te gustan las cuentas, puedes dejarlas o simplemente dejar la pintura.

I thought of this idea for a special Mexican celebration that is coming up, I have written special posts regarding this holiday in the last few days. On the 16th of September we celebrate the Mexican independence from the Spaniards. Therefore I thought about using a cool and different t-shirt for this day. I went out and bought a white t-shirt and with the help of some stencils, and paint, traced the name of “MEXICO” and then covered the letters with beads. Now lets get started! / En mi caso, pensé en esta idea para una celebración mexicana especial que se avecina, he escrito publicaciones especiales sobre este día festivo en los últimos días. El 16 de septiembre celebramos la independencia mexicana de los españoles. Por lo tanto, pensé en usar una camiseta divertida y diferente para este día. Salí y compré una camiseta blanca, con la ayuda de algunas plantillas y pintura trace el nombre de “MÉXICO” y luego cubrí las letras con cuentas. ¡Comencemos!

What materials do you need? / ¿Qué materiales necesitas?

• White t-shirt / Camisa blanca
• Black fabric paint (buy the paint that comes on a bottle with a small tube) / Pintura para ropa negra (compra la pintura que viene en una botella con un tubo pequeño)
• Beads / Cuentas
• Needle / Aguja
• Thread / Hilo

Steps / Pasos:

1. Take a thin marker and with the help of a letter stencil trace the letters MEXICO in front of the t-shirt. We want to choose a light color marker because we don’t want the paint to pass through the t-shirt onto the other side. / Toma un marcador delgado y con la ayuda de una plantilla de letras traza las letras MÉXICO enfrente de la camiseta. Queremos elegir un marcador de color claro, porque no queremos que la pintura se pase a través de la camisa y manche el otro lado.

2. With the black paint cover the letters completly and then let them dry. For this step I would recommend you place some kind of paper inside the shirt to make sure the paint does not go through and paint the back of our shirt. If you bought the paint that has the small tube it will be much easier to paint since you can just squeeze the bottle right onto the t-shirt. / Con la pintura negra cubra las letras completamente y luego déjelas secar. Para este paso, les recomendaría que coloquen algún tipo de papel dentro de la camisa para asegurarse de que la pintura no pase y pinte la parte posterior de la camisa. Si compraste la pintura que tiene el tubo pequeño, será mucho más fácil pintar, ya que simplemente puedes apretar la botella y pintar directo en la camiseta.

3. Once the paint has dried, take your beads and start sewing from the inside of our t-shirt to the outside, this way the thread will hold better when you start placing the beads. You should cover all the letters and can place as many beads as you want to. / Una vez que la pintura se haya secado, toma tus cuentas y comienza a coser desde el interior de la camisa hacia el exterior, de esta manera el hilo se mantendrá cuando comiences a colocar las cuentas. Debes cubrir todas las letras y puedes colocar tantas cuentas como desees.

All the stitches will end up on the inside of the t-shirt. / Todos los puntos terminarán en el interior de la camisa.

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial, I know that sewing by hand takes a while longer specially if you place as many beads as I did.
