How to make pallet coasters? / ¿Cómo hacer porta vasos de pallet?

Who doesn’t love ice cream? Have you ever wondered how much trash we make just by throwing out the package and the sticks after we are done? That is why we should try to find a way to recycle products and have fun with them. Since kids we’ve had the experience of working with popsicle sticks, of course we used to make simpler crafts and probably never thought of doing much more than that, but the fun part of creativity is that if we get inspired we can make awesome things that can fit into our lifestyle and home. / ¿A quién no le gusta el helado? Alguna vez has pensando en cuanta basura generamos solamente de tirar el empaque y los palitos de paleta cuando terminamos? Es por esto que deberíamos buscar la forma de reciclar los productos y divertirnos a la vez. Desde niños hemos tenido la experiencia de trabajar con palitos de paleta, por supuesto que solíamos hacer manualidades más sencillas y que probablemente nunca consideramos hacer algo más allá. Pero la parte divertida de la creatividad es que cuando nos inspiramos podemos hacer cosas increíbles que se adapten a nuestro estilo de vida y hogar.

When having parties or gatherings at home with my friends and family I like to have  everything on order, plates, chairs, glasses, etc. But I always find myself looking for coasters. That is the reason why I decided to make some of popsicles sticks pallet coasters. This is a very easy craft, takes you a few minutes and they will look very cool on your next gathering! / Cuando tengo fiestas o reuniones en casa con amigos y familia siempre me gusta tener todo en orden, platos, sillas, vasos, etc. Sin embargo, siempre me encuentro buscando portavasos. Esta es la razón por la cual decidí hacer portavasos con forma de pallets utilizando palitos de paleta. Esta es una manualidad bastante sencilla, solo te tomará unos minutos y acabaran viéndose súper padre para tu próxima reunión.

What materials do you need? / ¿Qué materiales necesitas?

• 11 Popsicle sticks /  1 Palitos de paleta
• Silicone / Silicón
• Cutting pliers / Pinzas de cortar

Steps / Pasos:

1. Start by cutting the ends of each popsicle stick with your pliers, we want to make the ends straight and now have them round. You have to make sure they all have the same size, we don’t want to have some bigger and some smaller than the rest. They all need to have the same length. / Comienza cortando los extremos de cada palo de paleta con tus pinzas para cortar, queremos que queden los extremos derechos y no redondos. Debes asegurarte de que todos tengan el mismo tamaño, no queremos tener algunos más grandes y otros más pequeños que el resto. Todos necesitan tener el mismo tamaño.

 

2. Place two popsicle sticks lying down to make the base, then we will take another popsicle stick and we will glue it on the edge with silicone. This stick has to be placed horizontally, as it appears in the image. / Coloca dos palos de paleta acostados para hacer la base, después vamos a tomar otro palo de paleta y lo vamos a pegar en la orilla con silicón. Este palo tiene que ponerse forma horizontal, tal como aparece en la imagen. 

3. Now the same way we glued our last popsicle stick, take two more and paste one on the middle and the other on the pending edge of our base. Hold them in place for a few minutes just to make sure they dry and stick properly. / Ahora, de la misma manera que pegamos nuestro último palo de paleta, toma dos más y pega uno en el medio y el otro en la orilla pendiente de nuestra base. Sosténgalos en su lugar durante unos minutos solo para asegurarse de que se sequen y se peguen correctamente.

4. Now we can paste our six remaining sticks on top, place some silicone on both edges of each popsicle stick and the middle so that they glue perfectly to our base. Remember to leave some space between each popsicle stick, so that you cover the base perfectly. Leave to dry for a few minutes. / Ahora podemos pegar nuestros seis palitos restantes en la parte superior, colocar un poco de silicón en ambas orillas de cada palito de helado y en el medio para que se peguen perfectamente a nuestra base. Recuerda dejar algo de espacio entre cada palito de paleta, de modo que cubras la base perfectamente. Deja secar unos minutos.
