How to paint your beach hat? / ¿Cómo pintar tu sombrero de playa?

Beach hats are the perfect accessory,  not only do they make us look good and trendy but they also protect us from the sun. Sometimes we don’t want to spend that much money on a new hat, but we sure like to appear with different ones on our pictures right? Especially during the summer. / Los sombreros de playa son el accesorio perfecto, no solo porque nos hacen ver bien y a la moda, si no porque también nos protegen del sol. A veces no queremos gastar mucho dinero en un sombrero nuevo, pero nos gusta salir con distintos en nuestras fotos ¿cierto? En especial durante el verano.

So, why not paint your old sun hat and turn it into a new one? / Entonces, ¿Por qué no pintar tu viejo sombrero y convertirlo en uno nuevo?

Materials / Materiales:

• Plain sun (beach) hat / Un sombrero de playa sencillo
• Oil paints / Pinturas de óleo
• Brushes / Pinceles

Steps / Pasos:

1. To begin you should think of a design and an idea of how you want to paint your hat (this type of material won’t let you sketch your design with pencil first, therefore making it harder). In my case I wanted to paint flamingos,  so to begin I took a light pink color and made the shape of the flamingo. Then with the red oil paint I made some details that started giving shape to the flamingo. / Para empezar piensa en un diseño e idea de cómo lo quieres pintar (el tipo de material no te va a dejar trazar primero tu diseño con lápiz lo cual lo hace un poco más difícil). En mi caso quise pintar flamingos, entonces empecé tomando un rosa claro y pintando la forma del flamingo, después tome un óleo rojo para crear los detalles y hacer que el flamingo empezara a tomar forma.

2. Then I took a dark yellow color and drew each of the flamingos beaks. Afterwards I took the black oil paint to make the shape of the eye and give the beak its final details. / Tome un amarillo oscuro y le pinte el pico a cada flamingo, después tome el óleo negro para pintarle el ojo y darle forma al pico.

Remember that painting with oil will take a lot longer to dry out than others materials, so you have to take that into account and be patient (especially if you’re planning to take it somewhere soon). / Recuerda que las pinturas de óleo tardan mucho más en secar a comparación con otras, así que debes tomarlo en consideración y tener paciencia (especialmente si estás pensando llevarlo a algún lugar pronto).
